Recently Australian designer Trent Jansen has been working on a collection of public space furniture for UAP, this new collection has just been released, called Make Do. UAP and Trent were commissioned to develop this collection into a group of furniture pieces for the UNSW Galleries. The full collection consists of: Make Do Seat, Bench and Coffee Table, and now sits in the foyer of the UNSW Galleries in Paddington, NSW.

The Make Do Bench, Seat and Coffee Table are influenced by the make do attitude that was born on the Australian frontier during the 19th Century.

Sight Unseen is an online magazine that takes readers inside the worlds of design, art, fashion, and photography. With in-depth, behind-the-scenes reportage, Sight Unseen uncovers the stories, inspirations, and obsessions of some of the most fascinating designers and artists working today. During New York Design Week this inspirational publication creates Sight Unseen OFFSITE produced and curated annually by former editors of I.D magazine and now co-founders of Sight Unseen Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer.

The 27th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair aka ICFF took place at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center with over 700 exhibitors and barely a month after Milan’s Design Week, ICFF is North America’s premier showcase for contemporary design and a force to be reckoned with. My eye might have been drawn to all things round and eclipsed for some reason during this show, so here are my top selects from this years ICFF.

Back at home I was Market Editor at Vogue Living, where I worked on the front of book; editing shopping pages, styling shoots and writing features on design, food and style. Here in NYC I’m working with photographer Martyn Thompson, as the Brand Manager for his new fabric collection, titled “Martyn Thompson Studio”.

The designs all begin as one of his photographs before being woven on a jacquard loom. It’s wonderful working with someone who is endlessly creative and has such a distinct vision! Over the coming days I will be showing you my personal insight into New York Design Week but in the mean time check out where I like to hang in NYC.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Exercises in Seating by Max Lamb | 5VIE

London designer Max Lamb presented ‘Exercises in Seating’ during Milan Design Week in our favourite zone, 5VIE. The retrospective exhibition showcased 42 of Max’s seat designs all arranged in a circular configuration, like a group council meeting, around the edges of Spazio Sanremo. The pieces were ordered roughly chronologically starting from his first piece he created while studying at London’s Royal College of Art through to his most recent, that he designed specifically for the Milan show. Through the assistance of curator Federica Sala , Max’s wife and Max’s Australian partner in designer crime Nic Gardner they created one of the most powerful and refreshing moments of the week.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Apparatus Studio | 5VIE

The urban district of 5VIE just by the side of Duomo was our stand out area this year during Milan design week. In it’s second year 5VIE art+design is a project promoted by the no-profit association Networking Milano Giovani, which brings together different sectors in this particular area of the city in agreement with retailers, schools, social foundations, public and cultural bodies, the church, residents and many others. Everything is supported by the Milan council and supported by Fondazione Cariplo. This year the area dedicated the week to Italian architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni,
