LOCAL DESIGN presents LOCAL MILAN No. 3

The third edition of LOCAL MILAN was presented last week during Milan Design Week, housed in a Palazzo within the 5 Vie district on Via Cesare Correnti 14.

LOCAL MILAN No.3 featured 26 Australian designers and was the largest independent showcase of Australian design to date in Milan. Curated and creatively directed by LOCAL DESIGN’s founder Emma Elizabeth, who styled and creatively directed the pieces to become reactive with each of the Palazzo’s bold interior coloured walls.

LOCAL MILAN No. 3 COMING SOON…

The third edition of LOCAL MILAN presented by LOCAL DESIGN will take place during this year’s Milan Design Week.

LOCAL MILAN features 26 Australian designers and is the largest independent showcase of Australian design in Milan to date. Pioneering the way forward for Australian design, Emma Elizabeth, founder of LOCAL DESIGN, has single-handedly curated and directed the exhibition to advance awareness and understanding of Australian design amongst a global audience.

TOM FEREDAY & LOUIS VUITTON

The Louis Vuitton Paris & Hong Kong team, have recently commissioned Sydney based designer Tom Fereday, to create a series of bespoke furniture pieces for their new Westfield Bondi Junction store. After three months of development, working in collaboration with Louis Vuitton, Tom has created a series of custom tables, chairs, side tables, armchair and day bed in Kvadrat Maharam fabrics including Maharams new leather collection.

There is nothing that makes us air punch emoji more, than when we hear and see, Australian designers creating works that involve layers of research and connection to old and new crafts, tied with technical enthusiasm with overseas brands. Exhibit A, Copenhagen based Australian designer Nikolai Kotlarcyzk who has worked with the Italian brand Portego based in Veneto.

KVADRAT MAHARAM X LOCAL DESIGN AT DENFAIR 2017

When approached by Denfair to activate and engage visitors within a 3m x 6m space, on entry to a large exhibition centre, the challenge became that, a challenge. Yet briefed along side, Kvadrat Maharam, the challenge became an exciting opportunity to explore their materiality and the extensive range of incredible textiles, fabrics & leathers available here in Australia. Local Design’s creative director Emma Elizabeth, took on the project and engaged a series of Australian design practices to further develop their already existing products and creative foot prints. LOCAL DESIGN presents LOCAL MILAN 2017

LOCAL DESIGN presented ‘LOCAL MILAN’, now in it’s second year, during Milan’s recent Design Week proudly supported by Brickworks Building Products, a showcase of 11 Established Australian designers. Curated by designer, stylist and creative director of LOCAL DESIGN, Emma Elizabeth. 8000 La Paloma White Artico bricks were hand placed within Oratorio della Passione, to create the scenography within the Sant’Ambrodgio district in 5 Vie. With 1000 long San Selmo Corso Aqua bricks hand placed in the outside courtyard, that neighboured the famous Basilica Di Sant’Ambrogio.
