What a week! 12 designers, 5000 bricks & probably 5000 Aperols. With the sound of Australian artist Thrupence and the scent of Aesop echoing and undulating through the ex church now theatre: Teatro Arsenale. 12 designers under the guidance of curators Emma Elizabeth & Tom Fereday transformed the space into a stong stylistic statement for Australian design as a whole.

LOCAL DESIGN x WES ANDERSON | DESIGNER TOM FEREDAY LAUNCHES WES

LOCAL DESIGN played host last week to the official launch of designer Tom Fereday’s WES range. The Wes Anderson inspired collection was the last exhibition to take place within the 46-48 Kensington Street, Chippendale location that LD occupied for the past 5 months, where they utilized the space as a creative concept venue.

The collection produced by The SD Element & distributed by Zenith is a powerful display of palette choice, form & function, with the modular formations making a striking visual choice for any commercial or even residential project.

Emma Elizabeth launches ‘Natural Progression’ | @ LOCAL DESIGN in collaboration with Designer Rugs

LOCAL DESIGN played host within their Chippendale creative concept space to designer & stylist Emma Elizabeth who launched her new collection ‘Natural Progression’ in collaboration with Designer Rugs. The collection stems from her previous success within Australia and overseas with the Round Diamond rug design, again she has focused on a textile that is a zoom in and exaggeration taken and/or abstracted from reality.

The collection Natural Progression consists of three designs: Plumage, Medusa & Pisces that can be customised to work within a square, rectangle, circle and even a triangular rug form. It is the power of customisation of form and colour that really pushed Emma Elizabeth into this conceptual textile realm,

LOCAL DESIGN presents | ‘WHO CARE’S…?’ | @ The Design Residency

WHO CARES….? A question evoked by an evolving window installation reflecting LOCAL DESIGN as a subject. Do people even care what and who makes local design…?  A design studio of innovative solutions, projects and experimentation, DAAST is the combined design thinking of designers Andrew Southwood-Jones and Alexander Kashindaast. When approached to take over this statement location within The Design Residency at 72 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst the boys yearned to initiate a conversation within an installation.

LOCAL DESIGN presents RACHEL VOSILA | ‘One A Week’ | @ The Design Residency | 72 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, SYDNEY |

Part way through her year long project, LOCAL DESIGN presents a curated selection of pieces from designer Rachel Vosila’s ‘One a Week’ project. The premise of this project is to design and produce an original chair each week for the entire year of 2015 with 52 chairs in 52 weeks. In association with The Design Residency and City of Sydney, LOCAL DESIGN will play host to a curated edit of the project thus far with RV live in the space for the duration of the activation.

LD1 | @ 46-48 Kensington Street, Chippendale, SYDNEY

LOCAL DESIGN launched their first exhibition LD1 within their new HQ 46-48 Kensington Street, Chippendale during the weekend of BEAMS Festival. Right on the cusp of Sydney’s CBD Kensington Street is a new must-visit lifestyle precinct that combines heritage, hospitality, retail and art in a way that Sydney has never seen before.

The first LOCAL DESIGN exhibition is currently showcasing thirteen Australian designer products. The series of interior mediums including lighting, soft furnishing, textiles and object are juxtaposed against the heritage building and flanked beside industrial stylised imagery shot within the Kensington St landscape by photographer Jem Cresswell and stylist Emma Elizabeth.
