MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Morten & Jonas | SATELLITE

Morten & Jonas showcased along side a series of their Norwegian colleagues, like Silje Nesdal from yesterdays post within Satellite on stand B29-31. The two boys having studied together for five years at Bergen Academy of art and design, where they finished their Masters in Design specializing in furniture and spacial design put together a collection with a soft and sophisticated Nordic tone. Their crafted product photography by Nina Ruud styled by Per Olav Sølvberg gave strength to their cause with it’s well thought through advertorial quality.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Silje Nesdal | SATELLITE

Within Rho Fiera’s Salone del Mobile in the Satellite section there was one particular stand that was a key stand out, B29-31. Four independent Norwegian designers showcased their individual projects in a beautifully stylized and colour pallet stand, we had to ask them are you a collective or are you all independent because as a whole the entire space worked as one solid thought out brand. The synergy they created through their personal works was subtle and simplistic, Silje Nesdel displayed a series of her product works that again all worked together in unison one complimenting the other,

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | RAW NARRATIVES | SATELLITE

The SaloneSatellite was created in 1998 for the sole purpose of bring together in the same place and time the most promising young designers from all over the world. Allowing them to showcase their wares in the hope of being scouted by business people, brands and or press. They are hidden at the very back of the vast Rho Fiera, where the main trade fair is held, with Satellite always a welcomed escape from the larger branded expose’. Vladimir Hauber from Raw Narratives talked us through his unique style of upcycling, describing the immense impact the leather industry has on our environment but yet he found the recycling possibilities to be even greater than the damage it’s causing.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Studio Droog | PORTA VENEZIA

Hidden in the back streets of Porta Venezia we stumbled across the crew from Studio Droog, who had taken over a tiny little hardware store to showcase their new range called “Construct Me!’. Ferramenta Alfredo Viganò at Via Panfilo Castaldi 40 Milano, showcased Droog’s smallest presentation to date in Milan. Yet it had such wit and charm with Australian communications manager Lara and Droog designer Henry from New Zealand putting their quirky spin on the installation and working the shot.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | MINDCRAFT15 | BRERA

We new that MINDCRAFT15 was always going to be a hit during Milan design week but we had no idea how much it would literally blow our minds with it’s incredible spine tingling music, mirror & moments. Curated & designed by GamFratesi the exhibition was named ‘In Between’ : in between mind and craft, in between space and people, in between visitor and exhibit, in between concept and product, in between appearance and interpretation.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | CECILIE ELISABETH RUDOLPH | VENTURA LAMBRATE

Due to its free spirited nature Ventura Lambrate is a go to destination during Milan Design Week. What we feel they do so well is create a fusion platform for design, food and innovation on a experiential and approachable level. Cecilie Elisabeth Rudolph a Danish textile artist, print and material designer, as well as a researcher, made us do somewhat of a double take. This highly passionate designer with a new style towards design, had on show what we perceived to be embossed textiles made out of fish skin. On further inspection and through Cecilie’s poetic gestures we were able to discover her rich and raw rational behind this project.. . .

MILAN DESIGN WEEK | EAT SHIT | VENTURA LAMBRATE

We are sure that the creative director of Design Academy Eindhoven, Thomas Widdershoven was initially nervous to come to Milan with a topic like shit, but he felt the more they discussed it, the more they realized it was absolutely necessary. Yes the title is explosive, but it is also entirely appropriate. The exhibition has been designed to present the breadth and attack of the Design Academy Eindhoven’s new Food Non Food department. I mean you can’t help but laugh at the word shit, crap or even poo, who doesn’t have a giggle at a little toilet humor.
