LOCAL DESIGN x WES ANDERSON | DESIGNER TOM FEREDAY LAUNCHES WES
LOCAL DESIGN played host last week to the official launch of designer Tom Fereday’s WES range. The Wes Anderson inspired collection was the last exhibition to take place within the 46-48 Kensington Street, Chippendale location that LD occupied for the past 5 months, where they utilized the space as a creative concept venue.
The collection produced by The SD Element & distributed by Zenith is a powerful display of palette choice, form & function, with the modular formations making a striking visual choice for any commercial or even residential project.
A selection of the WES collection is now on route to Milan, where it will be shown along side 11 other Australian designer pieces, within the LOCAL DESIGN group show ‘LOCAL MILAN’. Housed within the streets of 5 Vie at Teatro Arsenale, Tom’s collection will just be a stones through away from where his inspiration Wes Anderson’s work can be seen through the interiors of the PRADA Fondazione.
Tom also collaborated with artist Kate Banazi to create a series of hand printed posters inspired by the WES collection, working with Tom’s original working drawings Kate put her twist on the screen prints through layered graphics and colour contrasts.
The series of 8 designs are available currently from LOCAL DESIGN.
The Wes lounge was named after its soft yet striking appearance, paying homage in name to film director Wes Anderson. The Wes range represents a design exploration into merging traditional upholstery techniques with minimal design.
Over a year in development the Wes range highlights the skill and craftsmanship of Australian made upholstery. Sculpted and manipulated by hand over a uniquely designed, timber frame, the Wes range conveys complex yet minimal forms with entirely seamless upholstery from every angle. Contrasting piping celebrate the soft form of the lounge with elegant and vibrant colours.
Honest design from the inside out, the Wes range is constructed entirely from Eco plywood and finished with solid Ash legs and natural fabrics.
Designer Tom Fereday believes in honest Design, true to materials and it’s process. He develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products to design from the inside out.
By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment.
