MILAN DESIGN WEEK | MINDCRAFT15 | BRERA
We new that MINDCRAFT15 was always going to be a hit during Milan design week but we had no idea how much it would literally blow our minds with it’s incredible spine tingling music, mirror & moments. Curated & designed by GamFratesi the exhibition was named ‘In Between’ : in between mind and craft, in between space and people, in between visitor and exhibit, in between concept and product, in between appearance and interpretation.
It’s with no surprise that MINDCRAFT15 was the winner of the Milano Design Award with a special mention: “For the extraordinary visual impact, generated from an essential but courageous project, that creates dialogue in harmony with the unique and suggestive context. The project also underlines effectively the delicate relation between craft and industry.” We were lucky to view this exhibition early one morning with not a soul in the venue. You didn’t know really where to start as there were so many vantage points, we went back later in the week during the night too view under a different light, it was still amazing however the mirrored floor took quite a bashing with some serious foot prints from the crowd spoiling the reflections. Good thing we got in first!
Our favourite products within the reflective sets were:
1 | Point of View by Jakob Wagner || A bench that changes character depending on the point of view, a beautiful visual illusion.
2 | Basic Bar by Ole Jensen || A basic bar for serving water, consisting of a plinth with a large jug and accompanying cups made out of high-fired red clay & pinewood.
3| Selfie by Eske Rex || Selfie is a wooden object with two shells and embedded magnets pull towards each other giving it constant movement
MINDCRAFT is an exhibition concept showcasing some of Denmark’s most talented craftspeople and designers. The curated exhibitions are always a highlight during Milan Design Week and they demonstrate the qualities, potentials and versatility of new Danish craft and design. The MINDCRAFT exhibitions are organized by the Danish Arts Foundation and the Danish Agency for Culture.
