LOCAL DESIGN presents ‘LOCAL MILAN’, proudly supported by Brickworks Building Products. A showcase of 12 leading Australian designers, will be dramatically stylized with over 5000 bricks within the ex church now theatre ‘Teatro Arsenale’ within the new unique area of 5 Vie. Curated by LOCAL DESIGN founder & stylist Emma Elizabeth & industrial designer Tom Fereday, the two will ask you to question their countries design.
What is Australian Design…? What’s is Australian style…? Don’t know………………..? Well we will show you!
This will be the largest independent Australian presence to date for Milan Design Week and 5 Vie. The 12 designers included are: Tom Fereday, Emma Elizabeth, Shilo Engelbrecht, Kate Banazi, Tom Skeehan, Toby Jones, Rachel Vosila, Andrew Simpson, Mr.Frag, Coco Reynolds, DAAST & Alex Fitzpatrick.
All the designers & their products were selected upon merit with each designer displaying a crucial part & major role in the current Australian designer landscape, with their products resolved and ready for international sales and distribution. All products within the main exhibition will be available to buy directly through LOCAL DESIGN.
LOCAL DESIGN presented to the 5 Vie committee and was allocated the ex church now theatre, Teatro Arsenale. A stones throw away from Piazza Duomo, the interior space of over 100m2 will be transformed into the LOCAL MILAN showcase. On entry & exit into the space a capsule collection from the online LOCAL DESIGN gallery store will be set up in a pop-up shop execution. Allowing visitors to buy directly through the online store from sight/site.
The main exhibition of the 12 designers and their hero products will be formed out of over 5000 black bricks and dramatically spotlighted from above. A dark, moody, eclectic but strong statement will leave guests questioning and understanding the Australian design aesthetic to date.
In it’s now third year, 5 Vie Art + Design District is one of Milan’s oldest neighborhoods. Launching in 2014 with great success with their much talked about “BAAS IN TOWN” an installation by designer Marteen Baas that one them the “Best Impact Award”. This district has quickly become the one to watch, with their well edited & effortlessly executed schedule. Last year it saw stands outs Max Lamb and Apparatus Studio continue the dialogue amongst the Milan Design Week visitors that this area I a must for the Salone del Mobile show.
