The Pleat Bowl collection is part of the LOCAL DESIGN exclusive collection for Lane Crawford, curated and creatively directed by Emma Elizabeth.
Phil is a designer/ maker from New Zealand based in London since 2009. He is interested in methods of making which endow my object with visual clues about how they were made. ALL of his objects are handmade in my London Studio. Their complex forms and sharp Lines mean it is sometimes assumed they have been made using CAD software. CNC machine. or 3D printing. but they on closer inspection reveal that they are all handmade. Often tiny imperfections, a result of the processes by which they are made, give this away. Phil also hosts regular workshops in his home town of Auckland.
The Pleat Bowl exclusive to Lane Crawford, is a complex form where people assume they have been made using CAD software, CNC machining or 3D printing. But NO, on closer inspection they are all handmade and often tiny imperfections are the result of the process and give each one it’s own unique personality. Each piece is unique and has a Laser cut brass and cork base to allow for both tabletop and wall mounted applications. 100% hand-made from Jesmonite stone, by New Zealand designer Phil Cuttance in his London studio. This Material is a water-based stone composite, which is solvent-free and contains no VOC’s. The pieces can sit on a table as objet d’art or attached to a wall, where design meets art and visa versa.
