LOCAL DESIGN presents RACHEL VOSILA | ‘One A Week’ | @ The Design Residency | 72 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, SYDNEY |

Part way through her year long project, LOCAL DESIGN presents a curated selection of pieces from designer Rachel Vosila’s ‘One a Week’ project. The premise of this project is to design and produce an original chair each week for the entire year of 2015 with 52 chairs in 52 weeks. In association with The Design Residency and City of Sydney, LOCAL DESIGN will play host to a curated edit of the project thus far with RV live in the space for the duration of the activation.

Pop into 72 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst , Sydney to view her in action making and creating her chairs on site for these specific weeks.

After graduating from COFA with a Bachelor of Design in 2014, RV’s  final collection was a small family rocking stools – Signs of Wear. This project was picked up by Wallpaper* in the UK who were interested in shooting and featuring the stools and the designer herself in their Graduate Directory, a feature in their past January Issue which highlights a selection of recent graduates from design schools internationally. This feature launched RV’s work into the big wide designer world, and in return she has received a lot of interest in the series – for production, for sale and commission. She realised that she wanted to further pursue a career as an object designer, but at the time just wasn’t sure where to start

Beginning with an internship with Melbourne based Broached Commissions and working for Kartell all of last year, she learnt as much as she could about the industry, the designers and the processes. After both roles came to a close, she had an opportunity to spend some time working on her own aspirations again. RV wanted to explore all the ideas she had developed throughout the year and so ‘One a Week’ was born. She wanted to be held accountable to developing her ideas consistently throughout the year, and this project has definitely enabled her to do so and much more.

Working along side stylist and LOCAL DESIGN founder Emma Elizabeth, they have combined their enthusiasm & quick designer wit to produce a space of theater and showcase within 72 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney where people can come in directly to view Rachel at work, along with perusing an edited selection of her current ‘One A Week’ project.
