CREATIVE INSIDER | Conor Burke | NEW YORK
Back at home I was Market Editor at Vogue Living, where I worked on the front of book; editing shopping pages, styling shoots and writing features on design, food and style. Here in NYC I’m working with photographer Martyn Thompson, as the Brand Manager for his new fabric collection, titled “Martyn Thompson Studio”.
The designs all begin as one of his photographs before being woven on a jacquard loom. It’s wonderful working with someone who is endlessly creative and has such a distinct vision! Over the coming days I will be showing you my personal insight into New York Design Week but in the mean time check out where I like to hang in NYC.
HAUNTS
Ciccio: A wonderful little Tuscan basement restaurant, just down from the studio in SoHo. Well priced, delicious and great
negronis.
Buvette: Love sitting at the bar of this very charming French restaurant in the West Village. The menu is hugely satisfying, no matter what meal of the say you’re there for…though the steamed eggs at breakfast are a treat.
Smorgasburg: Weekly food market with vendors from around the city. Despite the crowds around the stalls, once you’ve settled on the grass it’s quite special to take in the view of Manhattan across the river while eating in the sun.
The Commodore: A fun local bar in Williamsburg that does a great fried chicken burger and plays good music, that gets loud enough in the late evening for it to become a dancing spot too!
Chelsea Galleries: I’m quite bad at doing “New York Things” but I do make a point to do the rounds at the galleries around 25th in Chelsea.
Conor will be sharing his design week insights on the blog later in the week in the interim you can track his movements by following >> Instagram >>> @cnrbrk #LDNYC15
