MILAN DESIGN WEEK | Sé | SPAZIO ROSSANA ORLANDI
Returning to Spazio Rossana Orlandi this year, Sé unveiled eight new pieces for Collection III by Nika Zupanc. The collaboration between Slovenian designer Zupanc and the international furniture brand, founded by Pavlo Schtakleff, has expanded to include a sofa, armchair, dining chair, sideboard version of the Loyalty Cabinet, and a range of mirrors. We have followed the progression and journey of Se’ over the years having bumped into Pavlo around the globe, Milan, New York, Sweden and London where years ago he kindly gave us a tour of his studio. He has endeavored to work with amazing craftsman and artisans over the years to create the designer visions of Nika and other Sé designers like Jaime Hayon and Langlois-Meurinne.
The weathered walls and the dark polished timber floors are the perfect scenographic space for Sé and you can see why they continue to come back to this space each year. Building on last year’s successful launch of the first pieces within Sé Collection III, the new additions continue Zupanc’s design narrative alluding to 1950s furniture and modernist influences. Bringing Zupanc’s aesthetic together with Sé’s craftsmanship and signature feel, the collection is a balance of wit, restrained elegance and luxury, while subtly introducing symbols and motifs associated with the power of sport.
The materials include a selection of the finest woods, metals, marbles and fabrics, and the shapes are dynamic and light. Like all Sé furniture, each piece can be customised and used within commercial and domestic environments. The colour palette selected was completely on note for Milan Design Week’s colour forecast with a muted take on pastels. Nika was truly the stellar star designer of Rossana Orland’s iconic venue with her own personal expose’ present at the entrance gates as well as her collection with Sé. Having worked with the likes of Dior last year her career is taking some incredible turns and with her playful twist on luxury and design ever present in her attitude and work we are always keen to keep an eye on Nika.
